I realized that my previous post omitted something important – it’s what I’ve learned using the kitchens created by other folk. It’s easy to think of what is missing, but there’s also the side of what is missing from mine that I only discovered by being in someone else’s.
So – for the record – here’s just a start. In my daughter’s kitchen I always discover new ingredients that I never knew about. It’s there that I discovered the joys of infused olive oils. I now have fascinating ones such as jalapeno and lemon and basil and orange. They have added so much fun to my cooking as well as incredible flavors. Sciabica even has a wonderful little sampler that makes it easy to try without much expense. I now look for recipes into which I can “infuse” a new olive oil.
In the kitchen of my sister-in-law I got to experiment with a true food processor. I have a little one that does some chopping, but this is the real thing. It slices, dices, and everything in between. She has every imaginable option so I could try everything. I have a hunch one of these wonders will have to come to my kitchen some time in the future. I love to dehydrate which requires fairly even slicing. This baby will do that. I love to make soups — ah ha – perfect. No wonder she kept saying to me, “What! You don’t have a food processor? How do you manage?”
And from my daughter-in-law I learned about these nifty cleaning pads. You’ve seen them advertised and so have I, but I’d never used them. They erase magically. There’s nothing like watching someone else use a product to become a believer.
So that’s my list for the night. It could go on and on. I’m beginning to think maybe I need to “volunteer” to take over other kitchens just to learn what I’ve been missing. I know there is a long list.
I’m learning a few things myself 🙂
